We tropical habitats have a love-hate relationship with summer. Sometimes, we detest it, yet we can't survive without it. Winter has its own charm. But who wants to wear a hundred layers of clothes, socks, gloves, etc. etc. for months when we have some awesome flowy summer dresses lying new in the cupboard? Anyways, summer always comes with its own perks. And though it is fun to wear comfy shorts and colorful floral dresses, the heat, dust, and sweat make our lives hell.

As summer leaves its harsh effects on skin and hair so much, it is necessary to take care of it gently yet tactfully. All the seasons demand separate attention for skin and hair. It is essential to have grease free, fresh looking healthy locks this time of the year without using too much product.

To rescue as well as save our precious hair, recently Herbal Essences has entered the country with their new Bio:Renew ranges, in five different variants.

I decided to go for the Bio:Renew Clean White Strawberry & Sweet Mint range. And today, I am here to talk about it after 1 month of trying the product. Around 5 years back, I have reviewed another shampoo from 'Herbal Essences'. You can take a look here.

Time has changed a lot since then, and so does my hair. Though the texture is same, I have noticed a few changes here and there over the years.

My hair:

I suffer from severe hair fall around the year. It is already fine, flat, and prone to breakage. Along with that, I have an extremely oily scalp. If I shampoo my hair in the morning, by the evening, the crown area will turn flat. The rest of the hair seems dry, and it takes around two more days to become full oily. But when the scalp gets oily that fast, it looks so dull and lifeless as you can understand.

My preferences to take care of my hair:

I like to take some extra TLC for my hair as it is fragile. For that, internal health is essential to maintain. A proper diet and a healthy lifestyle are always needed.

Externally, all I care is to use a shampoo that will be as natural as possible. My minimum requirement is no paraben, no sulfate, and no silicone. But every once in a while, I like to give a deep cleansing to my hair to get rid of all the dirt. So, I keep a sulfate-shampoo handy all the time.

Other than this, I try to do oil-massage once or twice a week. I have found an extraordinary hair oil about which I'll make a post soon. I am using that for the past three years, and I just love it.

About the shampoo:

When Herbal Essences came to India, like most of the girls, I too was super pumped up. My previous experience with the shampoo was not so good. So, I was a little reluctant at first. But then, I read about it and came to know about the new Bio: Renew range. And I decided to give it a try.

Among the 5 new shampoos, I have chosen Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Clean White Strawberry & Sweet Mint Shampoo and conditioner which claim to be free of :

Parabens
Colorants
Silicone
Gluten

Other available ranges are also free of the above things except that a few still have silicone in them. I don't like to give my hair an illusion of shine and smoothness for a regular basis, which exactly how silicone works (special events are different). That’s one reason, I’ve picked up this silicone-free variant of the shampoo.

My experience:

I have been using this shampoo since the last month. It is transparent in color and smells beautiful, just like a summery fruity drink. It lathers up well as it has sulfates in it. Before using the shampoo, I do oil-massage on my hair pretty extensively. And the shampoo does a good job cleaning up the gunk and leaves the hair soft, shiny, and manageable. I shampoo my hair thrice a week as I have an oily scalp. After using the conditioner, the hair becomes silky smooth. It doesn't weigh my hair down. I skip the conditioner on some of the days, and don't feel any dryness in the rest of my hair, which is really cool.

Now one issue I’ve noticed is that I feel my hair fall has increased a bit for some time. Now I know, it happens sometimes, when you use something new. It takes time to get used to it. As I was trying the shampoo for the first time, I had to use it on a regular basis which I don’t in general. I always prefer sulfate-free shampoo for regular use.

The problem is that I already have fine hair and I suffer from hair fall. In no way, I can take any chances to experiment too much. I have liked the shampoo otherwise, so I have decided to wait for another couple of washes. Till then, if it suits me, I will continue using this in the summers that too once in every 15 days. Otherwise, I’ll leave it for now.

However, I am not blaming the shampoo entirely right now because the season can be the culprit of all, or something else. I am not sure yet. As of now, I have to keep an eye.

But, at the end of the day, every product works differently on different people. This shampoo will undoubtedly help you a lot to get over the 'dirty, greasy' feeling of summer. Rest, you can decide once you give it a try.

I could just say I have a mixed reaction for this shampoo. But I wanted to discuss it further to know how others feel about it.

Though I am unsure about it till now, one thing I must mention is that the ingredients are still way better than most of the market available budget-friendly shampoos. It has got almost everything else to make it a perfect summer shampoo. So, you can give it a try once, and see for yourself whether it is suiting your hair or not. I hope Herbal Essences brings the sulfate free range as soon as possible in my country. I would love to try it for sure.

Updated Thought: I am loving this shampoo and conditioner now. I assumed it was causing me excess hair fall before but that turned out to be a thing of the season.

PURE ROSE WATER FROM ‘KAMA AYURVEDA’

Since ancient times, Rose Water has been blessing us with its countless number of benefits. Not only it has antibacterial, antifungal properties, but it also tightens the pores, purifies the skin, helps to reduce inflammation, and thereby acne and pimples, and offers a rejuvenated new look.

Long back, it was a dream to get the feel of real rose water in our country. Pure rose water was a mere dream. There were no brands who would provide ‘natural’ version. How I Use It:

So far, I've used pure rosewater, one from ‘Forest Essentials’ and another is from ‘Kama Ayurveda’. I’ve loved the Forest Essentials’ pure rose water too. But since this one came in the picture, I haven’t looked back to anything else.

I love this as a toner and use a few spritzes of it before applying my favorite facial cream or facial oil. Rose water is a perfect partner to combine with facial oils as they glide and get absorbed into the skin so perfectly with it.

Except this, during the summer season, and also when I am traveling, I carry a travel size in my purse and spritz it whenever I like to freshen up. It really does give instant freshness and cooling effect.

Also, this rosewater works beautifully when you use it along with your favorite Face Mask. Whenever my eyes feel tired because of excessive screen work, I take two cotton pads, spritz some chilled rose water on it, and keep it on my eyelids for 15 minutes. Once you try this method, you can't ever go back to anything else to relax your eyes and revitalize yourself. It is indeed a delightful Eye Pack for tired and puffy eyes.

I know it is pretty expensive, but one bottle goes a long way even if you use it religiously. Not all things fall under budget, though it would have been more helpful in that way. 😉😉 Organic, pure skin care products require immense attention and hard labor. Naturally, the price set in accordingly.

I surely hope that this rose water’s price doesn’t increase any more than it is right now. That would be a bummer.

No matter what skin types we are, our skin naturally has sebaceous glands which create an oily substance called sebum. Depending on the skin types, these glands produce less, regular, or excessive sebum. So, accordingly, if we use facial oils as per our skin texture, we'll be more benefited. It will be good if we can adjust the usage of the oil with our skin. What I mean to say is that if we can’t balance the right amount naturally, we can take the help of an oil, or an amalgamation of oils to give the much-needed luster and nutrition from outside. We use various facial creams. But a facial oil is always a more natural way to compensate the synergy.

Today, I am gonna talk about a spectacular budget-friendly natural facial oil that has been blowing many minds including mine, of course, in a remarkable way.

My Experience:

Actually, I bought this facial oil for my mum. She has beautiful skin, but it is very dry. I have never seen a single pimple on her face since the time I have grown my senses. Before I suggested her to indulge in all those fancy, crazily expensive facial oils, I wanted her to try this one. And to my surprise, her skin literally has changed since the time. She used it for 1 week, and we could see the difference. Her skin gulps the oil in two seconds, loves it to the core, and gives back beautifully soft, lustrous, glowing skin.

And that’s how I too started using this oil, and I am hooked. I can't tell you how beautifully this oil sits on the skin and glides into it. My skin really shows a healthy glow that the product actually claims. For some time, my skin was not in a good condition. But finally, I can see it recuperating well. I can foresee the full recovery in no time.

How I use this Plum Facial Oil on My Face:

Me and my Mum, both follow the same routine. After cleansing my face, I spray some Rose Water and let it sit for 10 seconds. Before it dries out completely, I take three drops of the oil and dab it gently on my skin. And voila! It gets absorbed in no time. After that, I take 1 drop of the oil on my ring finger and very carefully dab it under my eye area. It can be used as an absolutely mind-blowing Under Eye Treatment. I am really judgmental about eye creams (very few of them actually do work under the eye area, no matter it is expensive or not). But this oil works, you guys! Sometimes I use sunscreen above it if I am going out, or don’t use anything at all. I let it work on its own magic. My skin doesn’t require any further moisturization.

I love using this oil under my make up too. It gives a polished look with a natural glow within.

Though this oil is formally meant for dry and extreme-dry skin, my sensitive combination skin adores it.

As I live in a place which has a wonderful climate, I am using this during summer too, but every other day. For people, who live in humid areas will have to struggle a bit, but you can always reduce the quantity and use it.

Conclusion:

It is a miracle oil for my skin. I feel lucky to get to know this natural product without any harmful ingredients. All the products from Plum are Parabens, Phathalates, and SLS free. It was a surprise for me when it worked on me as it was not really made for sensitive skin. But somehow, the stars got aligned, it came into my life, and it worked like a charm.

INNISFREE JEJU ORCHID ENRICHED CREAM- WORTH IT OR NOT!

The last couple of years, Korean skincare brands have been ruling the Indian market like crazy. The famous Korean magical skincare is already well known to the world and honestly, their ultra-fresh, satiny, glass like skin is to die for.

Of course, it is worth trying their much-hyped "multiple steps skin routine". Even some skin care products are beautiful. But, sometimes, many of us forget the fact that gene pool plays a significant factor in skin and health, no matter how amazing or expensive a skin care product is.

Anyway, who doesn't want to give it a try, right! I too have grabbed the first chance of trying a product from one of the famous houses, “INNISFREE”.

I have talked about another Korean brand “The Face Shop” here. You can go ahead and take a look if you like.

So, I have been using Innisfree’s “Jeju Orchid Enriched Cream” for the past couple of months. And finally, I think I am quite there to share my experience with you.

This product claims to:

My experience:

This is not the first cream that I’ve used from this brand. During the last winter, I’ve tried the “Innisfree The Green Tea Seed Cream”and I liked it. Though I was not extremely impressed with it, I couldn't be sure because the place I live in, doesn't get affected that much during the chillier months. We can comfortably spend time with light jackets and all. So, overall, I feel the 'green tea' version can work well in the colder months and in colder places. It actually provides a good amount of hydration and skin looks healthy.

Now, coming to this 'Jeju orchid’ cream, actually, I had high expectations from it. After the green tea, I thought this would be perfect for my skin, given that I am in my early 30's now and I always prefer 'natural' skin care products in my life. This cream is paraben free. That attracted me the most. So, I bought it and boy, oh boy…I got absolutely hammered.

I have never ever come across a face cream that is this 'silicone'-y. I mean, you’ve no idea, how much I’ve tried to understand this product. But… I have no words to express my dissatisfaction.

I’ve used a good portion of this product by now. The product itself has a soft texture with a pinkish hue. But sadly, it seemed to create a problem for my skin texture. Though I have extremely sensitive skin, it has been acting well since I left my adolescent years. I don't get pimples usually, except a few hormonal ones. And my skin looks plumpy and clean in general.

This particular cream has altered the whole scenario. My skin looks ridiculously bad after using it.

The funny part- it took me months to understand that this cream is the culprit of all. The moment I started using it, I felt it was silicone-y. I thought “It happens sometimes.” I tried using different methods like using it alongside Rosewater, or Aloe Vera gel. But nope… If I talk about hydration, it gives a glue-like funky sticky feeling. That is so very uncomfortable. Whether I try this with or without makeup. Every time, the glue feeling persists.

So now,

My skin texture is ruined
I have quite a lot zits and spots in my face right now
It looks really dull and lifeless
My pores look bigger
I’ve wasted my hard earned 2000 bucks on a disturbing product
Except for the fact, this cream smells heavenly, I don’t like anything about it.
I have to work really diligently to get back to my old skin

What’s My Say to Console Myself:

Do not trust beauty influencers’ words blindly (maybe, the products work for them, not for all. And probability is, they are paid lump-sum bucks to talk all good things about it)
Sh*t happens. Move on.

Conclusion:

I got a free sample of “Jeju Pomegranate Kit” when I bought this face cream. I have used that too. The orchid version somehow masters the excellence of silicone in it. The green tea and the pomegranate ones are not that weird. But I am not gonna buy any of them ever as they did not do any wonders for my skin. Why waste money? But yes, these products may still work well for your skin. You never know. But my take would always be spending wisely from now onwards.

One of them is a Chemical Sunscreen, and another one is a Mineral or Physical Sunscreen. Confused? Once, I was also ignorant about all these facts. But worry not, this post will clear out all your confusions if any. Let's hear it out, shall we?

Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+

This one has been in many of our vanities for a while. And simply put, it is fantastic. Now, coming to a significant fact is, this one is a Chemical sunscreen. What is that?

By the name of it, I think you’ve derived the fact that this kind contains chemicals such as Octylcrylen, Avobenzone, and Octinoxate, etc. It is not absolutely unsafe for skin, but yes, some could be highly allergic and sensitive to these chemicals. Chemical sunscreens absorb the UV rays first, before letting it out as infrared rays. In this process, some traces of chemicals enter into the top layers of the skin surface, and even some traces could enter into the deeper layer.

I have been using this particular sunscreen for years after using some miserable greasy uncomfortable ones. And I’ve loved it immensely. Why? Let’s look at the pros and cons.

Pros:

Oil-free, non-greasy, sweat proof, and lightweight which are blessings in the summer season
Gives a Matt finish look and also a glowing effect on the skin

This new beauty has been launched pretty recently in the Indian market. And everybody has high expectations for it. First of all, this one is a Mineral aka Physical Sunscreen. What is that?

As the name says it all, Mineral sunscreen uses minerals as their active ingredients, specifically zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Unlike Chemical sunscreens, it just sits on the top layer of the skin and reflects the harmful UV rays. Doesn’t it sound wonderful already? In fact, research says, sunscreens that contain only mineral-based active ingredients are safe to use on babies. How lovely is that?

But, as baby-skin is really sensitive, no adult sunscreen is recommended to use on their skin. For them, special sunscreens are available.

Coming up to this one, I am yet to try a full tube of it as of now. But, I had used it a couple of times from a sample I received a few years back (before it was launched here). I have fallen in love with it after I discovered its benefits through my extensive research. Thank God, it's here finally, and I can't wait to order it after I finish my regular Neutrogena sunscreen.

Pros:

So, there you have it. When you choose your sunscreen always get one which contains at least SPF 30 in it and has broad-spectrum protection. Unless you are possessive about using everything natural (like me), both of these sunscreens are pretty good and have their own perks. But, if you ask me, I don’t mind looking like a ghost if that’s beneficial for my skin. I can tell you from my previous experience that it’s not impossible to blend if that worries you the most. It just needs a little bit of extra effort. So, I am gonna switch to the sensitive version on most days. 😊😊
